Mat Moms

What's a "Mat Mom" ?

The MM's organized just last year as a group of involved parents who want to see more cohesiveness in our team, to make sure the wrestlers are fed properly for competition, to help the Coaches with various tasks (especially fundraising), and in short:  to build Champions!

We primarily help to staff events, provide food for the hospitality rooms at home meets, feed every wrestler for Duals and Away matches, and at the end of the year build team spirit and excitement by decorating the locker room/lockers of the State competitors.

At the Youth/Club level, the wrestlers aren't bus traveling, and we have had only a few of the Moms come forward with ideas.  We would LOVE for some youth Moms to step up to organize possible activities for them.  However, because of the incredible size of that group, it isn't possible for the high school Moms to take this on.  For this reason, we don't ask the youth Moms to pay the $35 membership fee to join. But if you would like to order a "Mat Moms" t-shirt, the cost is $20 and you should contact Celeste King to place that order.

Where does the $35 go?? This year is our "off" year, meaning that we only have 3 Duals here at home, so there will be a LOT of travel. We ask for volunteers for each Away Dual to make sandwiches and lunch sacks.. this can range from 14 to 30+ kids at a time, and when we run short of volunteers we have to come up with all of the food anyway.  This can cause a hardship on the head Moms. So, $20 of your Membership fee pays for your Tshirt, and $15 gives us a cushion to provide food for the wrestlers when we're in a pinch.

At this point, here are our main goals for this year:

1) to keep our Wrestlers properly fueled for EVERY competition
2) to create/staff fundraisers that will support the overall program for Redskin Wrestling
3) to make our Hospitality the BEST possible (this is part of the reason we get good Refs, etc, because we treat them well!)

Please keep in mind that, our three main Home tournaments (Takedown on Nov. 5, Novice on Nov 12, and Mid-America Nationals on Dec. 9 & 10) are the biggest fundrai$er$ that we have.  When these teams come in, their dollars fund a good portion of what we do the rest of the year. Please support these tournaments!! 

If you can give ANY of your time on these days, we need workers! We need to staff the Concessions stand, the hospitality room, and starting Nov. 12th we will have booth with items for sale. Please let us know as soon as possible if you can be there to help.

One last thing, we have a fundraiser idea in mind and need some "crafty" Moms: do we have any Moms that sew, and/or have fancy sewing machines? Contact Heidi Drahos if this piques your interest!
